    Environmental leadership

    • easyJet is a strong advocate of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, which encourages organisations to be more carbon efficient. The aviation industry joins the scheme in 2011, something which easyJet has supported since 2003
    • easyJet was the first airline to unveil its design for a next generation short-haul super-clean aircraft, designed to cut CO2 emissions by 50% in 2015
    • easyJet is a fervent supporter of banning dirty, old aircraft from operating. Our fleet have an average age of just 2.3 years
    • easyJet is a founding member of Flying Matters, which seeks to promote the technological progress being made to ensure flying is as clean and quiet as possible
    • easyJet is at the forefront of campaigning to make air traffic control across Europe more efficient, which would lead to huge reductions in emissions

    Carbon offsetting

    • easyJet offers its customers the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions of their flights at the point of booking
    • easyJet was the first major European airline to offer carbon offsetting in exclusively United Nations-certified projects
    • Traditional, less efficient airlines emit nearly 27% more emissions per passenger kilometre than easyJet, so it costs our customers less to offset
    • easyJet currently buys carbon credits from the Perlabi Hydroelectric Project in Ecuador, which has been certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
    • By cutting out the middle man and buying credits directly, easyJet has reduced the administrative costs of its carbon offsetting scheme from 25% to 5%, making it the most efficient of its kind
