To deliver our operations effectively we need to ensure that we have the right people in the right roles with supporting infrastructure to ensure they can deliver the required business performance.
Our employee base continues to grow in line with business requirements. This year we recruited a total of 751 cabin crew, 111 cabin managers, 260 permanent pilots and 91 flexi crew pilots. In our management and administration function we filled 318 roles of which 38% were filled internally.
We also successfully transferred 237 of our people from Madrid to 17 bases around our network and are delighted that they remain with us 10 months later.
We continue to develop our recruitment campaigns to ensure we find the best people for the role and have been trialling a new, flexible employment contract for cabin crew. This enables us to offer many more cabin crew permanent employment which helps manage seasonal demand. Take up has been high and we expect to extend the trial soon.
This year we launched an external recruitment campaign for experienced pilots. This was aimed not only at pilots already experienced on the Airbus A320 family but also those requiring training such as those leaving the military. We have been delighted with the calibre of candidates and their desire to be part of our airline. We have also strengthened our relationship with our pilot training suppliers on clarifying our career path for pilots.
Refurbishing our HQ
This year we completed the expansion and refurbishment of our main office in Luton, Hangar 89, where we greeted 15,660 visitors last year. Significant improvements have been made including new shower and restaurant facilities and additional bicycle racks.
